Currency
There are many forms of currency in the game. Some shops or areas only accept certain types.
Hofs
There is only 1 currency that can be used Gold. Rubies are needed to pay the guard at the border Relicka/Frozen North to pass south. You might gain other currencies but they will be useless for now.
